Teams

The number and make-up of all DCGGBC teams will be decided on by the Board with occasional input

from the coaches and may be changed from time to time.

3rd Grade: Equal teams are created in 3rd grade. The Board strives to create well-rounded and cohesive

teams that play well together and make every effort to have no more than 10 on a team. Equal teams

are formed at these grade levels to ensure players develop basketball fundamentals, athletic ability and

a love for the game. These age groups will seek out leagues and tournaments within Central Iowa.

4th - 8th Grade: Teams for these age groups will be created based on skill level with the top team

comprised of players with the top ability based on assessments. This creates a more competitive

atmosphere for those athletes. Every effort will be made to have no more than 10 players on a team.

Playing time in these age groups is not based on equality but rather at the coaches' discretion based on

skill level, effort, attitude, attendance, strength of opponent, etc., but each player will be given playing

time on each day of competition. The coaches of these age groups will seek out leagues and

tournaments in Central Iowa but may look for tournaments anywhere in the Midwest.

Coaches

All coaches are parents or community members who step up to volunteer and lead a team. They are

provided with guidance, resources and support from the Board and DCG High School Girls Basketball

coaching staff to ensure a successful season for all involved.

All DCGGBC coaches must attend an annual coaches’ meeting and complete a code of conduct, AED

training, sexual abuse and misconduct policy, concussion training and background check.
